It is the name of wine coming from the grapes farmed in Caldera and transformed exclusively by a Social Cooperation between the producers on a Adega, located in the first village Portela. There already exists a register of vineyards used for the production of the wine of Chã and a production regulation is in preparation. The tourist will certainly appreciated the three types of wines of Chã (White; Rose and Red) and their characteristics. The technicians are Italians and an important transfer of knowledge on behalf of Cape-verdeans technicians responsible of the wine cellar is in course. The wine of Chã is in constant evolution and it will take approximately a few more years to perfect before arriving at a definitive product. The quality is already very high and the intrinsic characteristics of the basic production authorized. Future improvements of the technical capacities appropriate to aging (above all the Red Wine), then it will be allowed to reach a quality level recognized globally.
The actual production is about 500 hl a year and it is absorbed easily by the national market. The first commercialization rehearsals abroad are in course.
The wine-producing producers knows that tourism is a good way to begin marketing their products in Europe.
The tourists will be able to taste for free in a small house on the opposite side of the wine-producing wine cellar or can buy a small or large bottles of wine at the Pedra Brabo Hotel in Chã or at most stores and market places around São Filipe or at any other islands of Cape Verde, also at internationals airport in Sal and Praia, just ask for it by name (Vinho de Chã)
