 LOCAL WINE MADE AT HOME MANECON

It is the traditional wine, it is produced by old techniques. The results and flavors of Manecon is by far very different in contrast to modern wines. Manecom is characterized by a vinegar tip, if sugar is increased, it is cloudy, sometimes pasty, the color very shady, equally for the red and white. All the farmers produce their own version of Manecon, consequently there are a wide diversity between them. For the past few years, with the presence of the social wine cellar (Adega), techniques of production of Manecom has been lightly refined and the result are much better today.

For the inhabitants of Fogo, the consumption of Manecom is integrated alimentary regime. Inhabitants usually say that it is an excellent souce of energy  permitting them to do their daily agricultural activities, and most of the older natives prefers it better that the new wine utilizing new techniques or modern productions.

We recommend strongly that you taste Manecom, it is an interesting experience and probably tastes like an Old Roman wine. You will be able to find it in plastic or glass bottles at Ramiro´s or at Tito Montrond´s house and on the Bar & Restaurant ANTARES.
