INAUGURATION
the Bar & Restaurant Antares, constitutes an integral and significant part of the Tourist sector of the projecto COSPE, it was inaugurated officially with a big party
on August 26th of 2007, in the presence of General Director of Tourism of Cape Verde, Mrs. Filomena Ribeiro, the local Director of the Ministry of Agriculture; the Presidents of the City Halls of São Felipe, Mosteiros and of Santa Catarina; the Director of Natural Park of Fogo, Mr. Alexandre Newski and so many others. Above all a lot of people that arrived from all over the Island, Portela's and Bangaeiras´countless friends, also the local artists, etc…
The Bar & Restaurant constitutes the first step of the projecto COSPE along with the collaboration of the local partners, the Association of the Viticultores of Chã, in the construction of a small tourist village. The complete tourist village structure will be a strategic center with the idea of development linking local tourism activities that COSPE and the local partner understand and wish to continue.
SELECTIONS
The element of participation was already guaranteed on the process to select a group of individuals to run the bar & restaurant. A public contest was opened to all of the inhabitants of Chã das Caldeiras to find the perfect group. The criterias on group selections were: presence of a majority Women and Teenagers; no more than 2 people belonging to the same family nucleus. The groups, assisted by personnel of COSPE, the proposal was prepared and it had to be introduced to the public during the an open session to an assembly. To the public the possibility was given of choosing through the secret ballot for the best proposal.
TRAINING
Once a group was chosen training began with the duration of 40 days. Chefs, Waiter/Waitress and Bus People, hygiene and recycling of the garbages, english language, planning and accounting were all part of the training. This training module was prepared by local people that new the business, among them was the Director of the Natural Park for the Environmental Education, Director of Tourist Agency Qualitour for the english language and the Tourist reception, etc.
At the end of the first session of training, the group started operating the Bar-restaurant while continuing to train and being tested for the next 6 months, time enough for the traineers to verify the group managerial capacity and if the quality level have been reached.
CULINARY OFFERINGS
A rich offering of local especialties (Djagacida, Feijoada etc.) which comes accompanied naturally with local wines produced within the project COSPE, red, Rose and White wine Chã. Moreover, exiss also a wine produced by local producers at home called Manecom. The same genuine wine however it is less refined than that produced at the Adega. The Bar - Restaurante Antares also offers a small choice of Italian plates and naturally…Pizza!
ENTERTAINMENT
In collaboration with a local cultural group of Chatour, the place comes alive at times through cultural animation, live local music, the youths dancing capoeira, etc. but in the future they are programming mini theater festivals and dances at a height of 1890 meters, the inspiration might increase.
INTERNET-POINT SERVICE
An Internet service point is active at the Bar & Restaurant, that is it is also an info-center for the services of Chatour. Also our web site (www.chatourfogo.com) is managed from this internet service point.
